Empowering Songs From Female Artistes

I might be a boy but I’m a big supporter of female empowerment. We’ve all had to deal with a problem or two in our life whether it’s weight, bullying, cyber bullying or just a home problem. This is not entitled to one specific gender. This is my list of the best empowering songs from 4 female artistes. This will also contain their album name and picture in case you would like to check them out. Here we go!!!!

1️⃣ ALESSIA CARA- Scars To Your Beautiful (2015).

This 20 year old Canadian singer born Alessia Caracciolo, wrote ‘Scars To Your Beautiful’ and it was featured on her ‘Know-It-All’ album released in 2015. I personally love her album and have downloaded a large portion of her songs. This song is very important to her because when she was a teenager, she suffered severe hair loss. She said, “I remember looking in the mirror and seeing a large area of skin where my hair used to be so I began wearing hats.” When I first heard the song, it was like love at first sight. I wanted everyone in my family to hear the it, so I listened to it at dinner time and I would sing out loud just so they could hear the song. My dad being as judgemental as he is, shocked me when he said, “That song is awesome.” 😱😮

The song starts off by saying: She just wants to be, beautiful, she goes, unnoticed, she knows no limits, she craves attention, she praises an image, she prays to be sculpted by the sculptor.

The chorus says: There’s a hope that’s waiting for you in the dark, you should know you’re beautiful just the way you are, and you don’t have to change a thing the world could change its heart, no scars to your beautiful, we’re stars and we’re beautiful.

My favorite part of the song can be found in the second verse which says: She has dreams to be an envy so she’s, starving you know covergirls eat nothing, she says beauty is pain and there’s beauty in everything, what’s a little bit of hunger? I could go a little while longer, she fades away. She don’t see her perfect, she don’t understand, she’s worth it or that beauty goes deeper than a surface oh oh. 🎶 🎶

Based on the lyrics, it doesn’t need to be said that the song is about not feeling “beautiful” and being influenced by the television or social media, which is a big contributor of people wanting to change themselves, not even realizing the major risks.

2️⃣ BRITT NICOLE- Gold (2012)

Britt Nicole, 32, original name Brittany Nicole Waddell, wrote ‘Gold’ in 2012. Have you ever lost a beautiful song and then suddenly you found it out of the bloom? That’s me with this song. Although I don’t know the story behind this song, I know that it deserves to be on my list. Being an insecure person at one point in time because of my weight, even though I still have it, this song has helped me to realize that I should just be myself and not worry about what anyone thinks.

The chorus: You’re one in a million, this, this is for all the girls, boys all over the world, whatever you’ve been told, you’re worth more than gold. So hold your head up high, it’s you’re time to shine, from the inside out it shows, you’re worth more than gold.

My favorite part of the song: So don’t let anybody tell you that you’re not loved and don’t let anybody tell you that you’re not enough. Yeah, there are days when we all feel like we’re all messed up but the truth is that we’re all diamonds in the rough. So don’t be ashamed to wear your crown, you’re a king, you’re a queen inside and out, you glow like the moon, you shine like the sun, this goes to you, wherever you are. (Trying to hit that high note. Can’t do it! 😑) I’ll get it the next time.

If you’ve had weight issues or feel like you can’t fit in, I double dog dare you to watch this video.

3️⃣ MELANIE MARTINEZ- Mrs. Potato Head (2016)

Saying I love this girl and song is a total understatement. Her album Crybaby is awesome. It was actually inspired by her childhood nickname. When she was younger, she was really sensitive and she made that into a brand which is commendable. 👏 👏 👏 Although the title of the song is weird, the message it sends is deep and beautiful. It also shows television being one of the main reasons people change themselves. In the beginning of the music video, she is watching the 📺 and there is an advertisement going on saying that “If you buy this wig, you’ll be beautiful.” Another one says that “If you buy these diet pills, you’ll look like a model and you’ll be so attractive.” 😔 Sigh! Poor Melanie starts to think that she needs to change herself, so she goes into her bathroom to take these pills and put on her wig thinking she looks more beautiful than she did before. Also she stuffs her bra with toilet paper. 😔 The theme of the song is plastic surgery.

She turns on the television and the music video starts. The star of the show is a young girl that has a rich boyfriend that gives her money to do a facelift. Stupidly, she actually did it. She went to get breast implants and the doctor put in cotton balls instead. After the surgery, she looked ugly with everything on her body being botched. Here’s the twist so come in a little closer. Closer! Closer! Not that close! A guy needs his space. 😜 The same man that gave her the money to do plastic surgery, left her for another girl that was equally as beautiful as she once was. After seeing that horrifying movie, Melanie takes out the toilet paper and takes off the wig realizing that she doesn’t need to change anything.

The song starts off by saying: If you weren’t born with it, you can buy a couple ornaments. Just be sure to read the warning kids cause pretty soon you’ll be bored of it. Sexual, hey girl if you wanna feel sexual, you can always call up a professional, they stick pins in yah like a vegetable. Kids forever, kids forever, baby soft skin turns into leather, don’t be dramatic it’s only some plastic, no one will love you if you’re unattractive.

The chorus goes: Oh Mrs. Potato Head tell me, is it true that pain is beauty? Does a new face come with a warranty? Will a pretty face make it better? Oh Mr. Potato Head tell me, how did you afford her surgery? Do you swear you’ll stay forever even if her face don’t stay together. 😶 (Those words are DEEP!!)

My favorite part is: If you want a little more confidence, potatoes turn to French fries, yeah it’s common sense. All you need’s a couple more condiments and a hundred thousand dollars for some compliments. It’s such a waste, when little girls grow into their mother’s face, but little girls are learning how to cut and paste and pucker up their lips until they suffocate. 🤐😯 (I’m speechless)

Melanie said, “This is my favorite song on the album because it was the hardest to write.”

Let me tell you! This song made me look at Mrs. Potato Head from Toy Story, a totally different way.

4️⃣ DAYA- Sit Still, Look Pretty (2016)

When I first saw this song being advertised on YouTube, I thought it was going to say “All I wanna do is sit still and look pretty while my husband goes to work, providing for me and my kids while I stay and home and do house work in my beautiful dress.

I WAS WRONG!!!❌

It’s actually a song about Daya not wanting to be a housewife but wanting to have a career of her own. I think this is a good way of telling young girls that there is more out there than to be someone’s wife. I personally want a girl that has goals and a career. I don’t want someone that depends on me to make ends meet and stays at home doing chores all day. ✋🏼 ❌

First verse goes: Could dress up to get love but guess what? I’m never gonna be that girl who’s living in a Barbie world. Could up to make up and play dumb, pretending that I need a boy, who’s gonna treat me like a toy. I know all the other girlies wanna wear expensive things like diamond rings, but I don’t wanna be the puppet that you’re playing on a string, this queen don’t  need a king. 👍🙌🏻🙂

Chorus: I don’t know what you’ve been told but this gal right here’s gonna rule the world. Yeah that is where I’m gonna be because I wanna be, no I don’t wanna sit still, look pretty. You get off on your nine to five, dream of picket fences and trophy wives but no I’m never gonna be cause I don’t wanna be, no I don’t wanna sit still, look pretty.

Favorite part of the song: Then Snow White, she did it right in her life . Had seven men to do the chores cause that’s not what a lady’s for.

I hope you young girls realize that you are not supposed to be a “maid” and boys, girls are not supposed to be your house maid’s or house pets because they are human beings just like you are.
Hard to believe this was written by someone that’s been 14 for 2 weeks, right?

Finally, you are beautiful, smart and you shouldn’t let anyone treat you like you’re yesterday’s garbage and also don’t change yourself for anyone. Either they stay and deal with you or they leave . Please tell your friends to read my post. ✌🏼
